E. Wayne Hurlbutt
August 25, 1926 - December 16, 2015
Edward Wayne Hurlbutt was born on August 25, 1926 in Springfield Missouri to Robert and Nora Hurlbutt. Survived by wife Carrie Hurlbutt, son Edward Tina Hurlbutt Jr., son Jeffrey Joyce Hurlbutt, and daughter Cynthia Foreman all three children are graduates of Oregon State University. Cassie Hurlbutt, Zachary Hurlbutt, Matthew Hurlbutt, Leslie Hurlbutt, LeRoy Foreman, and Daniel Foreman. Sister-in-law Laura Mae Hurlbutt.
Wayne joined the Navy at age 17 with permission from his mother. He served aboard the USS Bradford in World War II and fought in the battle of Iwo Jima.
After the war he returned to Missouri and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Drury College. He then relocated to California and went to work for State Farm Insurance. There he met Carrie and was married in April 1954. Wayne and Carrie moved to Salem Oregon when State Farm established the Northwest Regional Office in 1957. He became the Silverton State Farm agent in 1962. He retired from State Farm in 1995.
In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting that you give a contribution to the Talking Books and Braille Service of the Oregon State Library which provides books on tape and assistive listening devices that allow people with a love of reading to maintain their passion when they are no longer able to read.
Services will be held at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Chapel at 2 PM, Sunday December 20th.
Military Graveside service for the family will be held at 1 PM, December 29th at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
