Frances Harriet Young
July 5, 1934 - April 20, 2021
Frances Harriet (Forinash) Young passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021 after living her life gently, guilt-free, respected and most of all loved by so many. Heaven has now welcomed her back to her spiritual home.
Fran, as she was known by most, was born in Denver, Colorado on July 5th, 1934 to Harry Tony Forinash and Ethel Pearl Hicks. Fran was raised in Colorado as well as Utah. She was the youngest of three children, and followed her parents in death. Her two older sisters Lois Lorraine Vodopich of Bountiful, UT, and Fredrica Elizabeth DuFresne of Enfield, CT both preceeded Fran in death.
Her greatest joy came from raising her two daughters – Kim and Krystal. She often said her girls were the best things she ever made; and she shared so much joy, laughter, love and even tears with both of them. She also rejoiced in the many accomplishments of each of them individually. To Kim’s friends she was affectionately known as “Mrs. Kim”. Krystal’s friends always called her “Mom” or “The Parental Unit”.
Fran’s career path led her into the medical field as a Registered Nurse. She chose the newborn nursery as her specialty and worked 3 decades at Salem Hospital and welcomed many newborns into this world. After retirement, she accepted a seat on the Salem Hospital Auxiliary Board chairing the scholarship committee. Fran volunteered with the Shriners Club conducting assessments on children’s eligibility to receive care through the Shriners Hospital for Children.
Fran was a strong person of faith and was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held a number of positions within the church over the years. Fran believed her life was an extraordinary experience from which she learned it is not the illusion of happiness one should seek, but to cherish the excitement of the journey.
Fran also had a great love of nature and gardening and was rarely without a cat or dog by her side as a trusted companion. She loved to read, going to live theatre, and enjoyed traveling, and spoke often of her month long dream vacation with daughter, Kim, and son-in-law, Brian, touring many countries in Europe.
Fran was a fighter and survived breast cancer. She was also a fiercely independent woman living on her own. She held most precious her family, her country and the Lord and will be remembered in the hearts of all who knew and were touched by her.
Fran is survived by her two daughters Kim Lorraine Charlson [& her husband Brian] of Watertown, Massachusetts; and Krystal Lynn Smith of Salem, Oregon.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1375 Lockhaven Drive NE in Keizer on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 3:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to The Willamette Humane Society, 4246 Turner Road, SE, Salem, OR 97317, or to The Seeing Eye, PO Box 375, Morristown, NJ 07963-0375.
