Emily S. Schue
January 24, 1926 -- September 15, 2018

Emily Stanton Schue, passed away from complications due to dementia, on September 15, 2018, in a care facility in Salem, Oregon.  She was 92 years old and preceded in death by her husband, Warren Schue. Emily leaves behind her four children, Margaret Schue, Steve Schue, David Schue and Priscilla Hansen.  Also, three granddaughters, Mary Bower, Laura Hansen and Allison Schue, as well as two great grandchildren, Evelyn Bower and Greyson Bower.
Born in Seattle, Washington in 1926, Emily graduated from Garfield High School and later from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.  While teaching English in a small town on the Oregon Coast, Emily met Warren Schue -- also a teacher. They married in 1948, lived in a variety of Oregon towns.  Among these were Hillsboro, Lake Oswego and Eugene -- where she lived from 1965 until 2010. She spent her final years in Salem nearby her daughter Margaret.
During her 45 years in Eugene, Emily was very involved in the community.  Along with Warren, she was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church.  She served three terms on the Eugene City Council. She participated in the League of Women Voters -- a group which she held in high regard.  And, when Eugene outgrew its public library space, Emily helped raise funds for new development as a part of “Friends of the Library”. Also, both Emily and Warren served on committees to help lower income families with housing issues in Eugene and nearby Springfield.
Being outdoors was a common place to find Emily, be it gardening, walking, camping trips with family, hiking, traveling, etc.  As her children grew up, along with general home making, she was involved with various scout troops and youth groups, first in Lake Oswego where her youngest was born and later in Eugene.
Emily believed that caring for a family as well as striving to serve the community you live in made for a fulfilling life.  A longtime family friend recently shared her thoughts about our mother, Emily Schue: “Your Mom was a trooper, hard worker and dedicated lady, who wanted to make her part of this world a better place, in important ways”.   I think Emily would humbly agree.
