Elizabeth Ann (Martzowka) Feusse
August 22, 1935 - October 8, 2018
Elizabeth Ann (Martzowka) Feusse (aka Marty, Annie, Oma, and Mom) passed away peacefully on October 8, 2018, in Salem, Oregon, in her daughter’s home. Mom was born in Roscommon, Michigan, on August 22, 1935. She lived in Roscommon her entire life – except for 2 years in England, 7 years in Florida, 10 years in Germany, and 3 months in Oregon.
Mom attended Central Michigan College of Education (now named Central Michigan University), where she met her future husband, Carl Edward (Kelly) Feusse. Mom and Kelly were married on August 31, 1957. They lived in Sarasota, Florida, where he worked as a sports reporter, and their children Andy and Micky were born in 1962 and 1965. Then the family picked up and moved to Darmstadt, West Germany, where Kelly worked for the Stars and Stripes for 10 years. They had many happy times in Germany, skiing, camping, and cruising the Rhine River. Returning to Roscommon after leaving Europe, Mom became the secretary for Roscommon High School, where she worked for 25 years. Many students will fondly remember her gruff voice calling out over the loudspeaker. Mom lived on the banks of the Au Sable River for the rest of her life, and her home became the site of much fun and good cheer for her friends and family. Mom loved the outdoors, and one summer canoed with her children all the way from Roscommon to Lake Huron. Mom also loved animals; she cared for a menagerie of wild and domestic animals for many years. After she and Kelly retired, they continued to love the Roscommon area, as well as visiting their children and grandchildren in Oregon and New Jersey.
Mom will be remembered for her feistiness, independence and courage. She inspired people to live life on their own terms. Despite being legally blind due to macular degeneration, Mom was able to live independently for years after Kelly passed, thanks to generous support from many friends and family members.
Mom’s husband of over fifty years, Kelly Feusse, preceded her in death in 2014. They are survived by their two children, Andy Feusse and Micky Feusse Logan, daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Nancy Feusse and Todd Logan, and their four grand-children: Michael Feusse, Elizabeth Feusse, Spence Logan, and Harrison Logan. Mom is also survived by her brother, Paul Martzowka, and her sister, Charlotte Kindt, and many loving nieces and nephews and friends.
She will be missed. Donations may be made to the Willamette Valley Hospice in Salem, Oregon. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
