Edward C. Morehead

June 22, 1925 - January 13, 2020

Edward C. Morehead, age 94, died on Monday, January 13, 2020.  He was born in Minneapolis, MN to Dale and Blanche (Bacon) Morehead and was an older brother to Rohne Morehead who preceded him in death. Edward graduated high school in Northfield, MN where he later attended St. Olaf College. Ed served in the Army Air Corps from 1943-1946 where he was trained as a radio operator and a ball turret gunner on the B 24 (Witchcraft).
Edward is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Espen),  whom he married shortly after the end of the war on June 12, 1948. Together they had 9 children, 19 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. The children are: Jeffrey Morehead, Deborah Walters (David), Stephen Morehead (Lynette), Patrice Schatz (Duane), Scott Joseph Morehead (full-term sill birth in 1956), Mark Morehead (Elaine), Mary Beth Smaldone (Philip), Katherine Heitzhausen, and Anne Wolfington (Michael).
Edward spent his early career as an architectural draftsman and later entered the insurance industry.  He and Phyllis loved to travel all over the world and experience different cultures. He was an  active member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Salem, OR. Ed also enjoyed volunteering his time in the Knights of Columbus, The Rotary Club, delivering Meals on Wheels with his wife, and most especially as a docent for the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, OR where he gave tours on the B-17 WWII aircraft.  Later in his life, Ed took up painting and reignited his love of art and design.
Edward Morehead will be most remembered for his optimistic attitude, his smile and good cheer whenever someone walked through the door, his love of adventure (skydiving at 85), and his thorough enjoyment of his large family gatherings.
A Rosary will be at 10:15am followed by Mass at 11:00 am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Lone Oak & Friendship Dr. On Monday, January 20, 2020.
