Dr. Robert C. Grim

December 3, 1946 - September 13, 2018

Robert Charles Grim passed away peacefully on September 13 after a nearly two-year battle with glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive brain cancer.  RC was a quiet, humble, optimistic, gentle man who lived his life to the end with dignity and grace.
RC was born December 3, 1946 to C. Robert and Isabell Grim. He had fond memories growing up in Bonneville, Oregon with the Columbia Gorge in his backyard. His family moved to Gresham when he entered high school so he could attend Gresham High School Class of `65.
RC attended Oregon State University graduating in 1969 with a degree in mathematics.  He was a member of Beta Theta Pi and kept many Beta friendships through the years. He also met Ann Ericksen at OSU. They were married in March 1969.
Upon graduating from OSU, RC and Ann moved to Pensacola, Florida where RC began his training as a naval aviator. He was very proud to earn his Navy pilot wings and he loved to fly. While stationed at the Naval Air Base in San Diego, RC decided to change career paths and pursue his interest in dentistry. He was admitted to Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry and graduated in the class of 1977.
Upon graduation from OHSU, RC got an opportunity to open a practice in Salem and began his 39 years as a general dentist on Commercial Street South. He enjoyed dentistry and serving his patients.
RC was one of the original “car guys.” For years on Saturday mornings, they headed for Portland car lots with Starbucks in hand to “rescue” a premium car that had been “slightly” damaged. He liked German cars best, especially Porsche 911s.
He loved fishing, and always looked forward to his annual Alaska fishing trip.   He came home with plenty of salmon, one of his favorite foods. He liked running (completing 13 marathons),  skiing at Meadows or Bachelor and coaching youth basketball. RC liked to travel, but Black Butte Ranch was his favorite retreat.
RC is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Ann, his two wonderful children, Scott Grim of Beaverton and Dr. Kathryn Snyder (Jordan) of Salem. An infant son, Douglas, died in 1980. RC was very proud of his four young grandchildren Brooklyn and Harper Grim and Calvin and Parker Snyder. He leaves behind his ever-faithful dog, Maggie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, (1444 Liberty St. SE) in Salem on Sunday, September 30 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Willamette Valley Humane Society  4246 Turner Rd. SE, Salem OR 97317.
