Douglas C. Clark

October 9, 1926 - December 24, 2018


Douglas Charles Clark, “Papa Doug”, left this life at the age of 92, on Christmas Eve to go to his eternal home.  He was born to parents, George Clark and Beulah Spring.  He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucille Webb Clark, children Ellie Langdon, Gordon Clark, wife Jeris, Pipi Clark-Tansill, husband Steve, sister Eunice Elmore, grandchildren Julie Straw, husband Eric, Rachael Langdon, Mickey Clark, wife Samantha, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 Doug grew up in Portland and attended Rose City Park Elementary and Commerce High School.  While in high school he was a three- sport letter winner.  He garnered all PIL honors as a pitcher.  After high school graduation at the age of 17 he enlisted in the US Navy where, following the end of WWII, he spent a year with the occupation forces in Japan.
 
After his military service he attended OSU where he earned both B.S and Masters degrees, and a teaching certificate.  He was a life- long educator and began this career at Astoria High School where he taught biology, math and coached three sports.  He became assistant principal after several years and also served as athletic director and Commissioner of the North Coast Football Officials Association for many years.  In addition, Doug was principal of Woodburn High School, vice principal at North Salem from 1972-1980, and then South Salem High School from 1980 until his retirement in 1985
 
An avid golfer, he was an officer of the Salem Golf Club Men’s club for 22 years.  He had a career 8 holes in one, and at the age of 77 he shot his age! He was a fan of his beloved Beavers until the end.
 
A celebration of his life will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, Salem, Oregon.
