Dorothy Pauline Hansen

May 28, 1928 - November 12, 2019

Dorothy Pauline Hansen 91, went home to be with her Lord on November 12, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton E. Hansen, her parents Grace Alma Dollie and Walter Kincaid, and her two brothers Lindel and George Kincaid. She is survived by her son Dustin Huffman, his wife Patricia, three grandchildren Chris, Dustin and Julia, and four great-grandchildren Nathaniel, Ryder, Destiny and Shawn.

Dorothy grew up on a farm in Henderson County, IL. She knew from early on that she wanted to be a nurse. She accomplished this goal by moving to Galesburg, IL and attending Galesburg Cottage Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation in 1949 she moved to Chicago for her residency. When the residency ended, Dorothy and a group of her college friends moved across the United States to Tillamook, OR where she became a surgical nurse at the Tillamook Hospital.

Dorothy soon learned how much she loved Oregon and all the adventures she could find here. Often she could be seen wading across a river to salmon fish, clamming on the Oregon coast and camping just about anywhere she could. While working in Tillamook she met her first husband James and moved to Astoria, OR where she had her son Dustin. Eventually they moved to Salem and she spent her working years at the Chemawa Indian School, Fairview Hospital, Boise Paper Mill and Agripac. She also took pride in being part of the Willamette Valley Hospice board and utilized their services in her last days.

She met Milt Hansen while they both attended church at St. Timothy’s and they were married in 1975. She often said she had met " the love of her life”  They spent many years traveling across the country, camping and fishing and simply enjoying every moment of life that had been granted to them. There was no better time for her than sitting on the shore of a lake with a fishing pole in her hand.

Although she loved her life on this earth, she was ready to go home. We will miss her greatly but celebrate the fact that she is finally home with her two greatest loves, the Lord and Milt.

Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Home, with the service being held at St Timothy's, November 23, 2019 at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Willamette Valley Hospice or St. Timothy’s  Episcopal Church.
