Donald R. Trammell
February 22, 1934 - November 16, 2018
Donald Trammell was born February 22, 1934 in Ashland, OK to Millie Ellen (Orr) and Isaac Ransom Trammell. Don was the fourth child born to this union.
Don started 1st grade in Ashland, OK, 2nd grade in Brooks, OR, when in 2nd grade, his family moved to Kiowa, OK, 2 nd to 10th grade Kiowa, OK, 11th and 12th grade Savanna, OK, graduating in 1953.
Upon graduation Don went to work for Nash Garage in McAlester, OK, later moved to Amarillo, TX to work for Amarillo Livestock Yards. In the fall of 1954 he moved to Tulsa, OK to work for T and T Construction as a cement finisher. In October 1954 he met Norma Jean Tinker (blind date) in McAlester. They were married January 14, 1955 and made their home in Tulsa. In November 1955 they moved to Amarillo, TX where Don worked as a truck driver for Pinkney Packing Co.
In July 1956 Don was drafted into the Army. On December 28, 1956, he was sent to Korea for 16 months. Don returned home May 2, 1958 and returned to work for Pinkney Packing Co.
His oldest son Montye was born April 9, 1959. In February 1961 Don moved his family to Salem, OR and on October 3, 1962 his son Ronald was born.
Don's places of employment included Bud Haughstead Payless Garage, E.L. Wood (onion farmer), Superior Tire, O.K. Tire, Taggesell Pontiac, home builder and in 1979 went to work for Oregon School for the Deaf as a painter, retiring in 1996.
After his retirement he worked in the onion harvest as a truck driver for E.L. Wood and later for Gregg Bennett until 2014 when because of health issues he had to quit.
Don was preceded in death by parents Ransom and Millie Trammell; brother Cecil Trammell and sisters Juanita Smith and Janet Trammell (stillborn).
Don loved his family. His sons were, are still, his "PRIDE AND JOY". He was involved in many camping and fishing trips, Little League, and a teen square dance club (Kalico Kids).
Don is survived by his wife Norma Jean Trammell (married 63 years); sons and daughters-in-law Montye and Debbie Trammell, Ronald and Sharon Trammell; grandchildren Brian (Codi) Trammell, Mike (Jessica) Trammell, Jessica Trammell, Andrew Trammell; great grandchildren Connor Trammell, Rylee Trammell, RyLee Holmes, Jaxson Trammell; sister Imogene King of 0klahoma and brother Wendell Trammell of Texas.
