1930 - 2018
Our dear, sweet, beautiful Mother quietly passed away due to complications of Dementia in the early morning hours of September 15th, surrounded by three generations of her adoring family. Her life was stolen away from all of us. She was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Irene and John Buckner, and was the loving older sister to Patsy and Jeannette. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1939, which she says was like a scene straight out of the movie "Grapes of Wrath". She graduated from Freemont H.S. in 1949, an honored member of the drill team, Spanish club and choir. Mom was a very talented piano player!! Our childhood memories are filled with echo's of her playing all the time. She was going to the Police academy when she met and married Fred Rhoden in 1950 and had Dennis (Perlita), Denise (Cary) and Diane (Michael). Whenever she could, she worked as a waitress in her Mom's restaurant. She suffered from physical abuse (in those years women didn't talk about it). In 1965 she married Louis Ratzell and had Dwayne (Terri). They moved to Kauai, HI, in 1967 to be the managers of Kokee Lodge. In 1971 they moved to Dallas Oregon where she drove a school bus. They were off to Montana in 1974 when she became a major Tupperware dealer. After moving back to Dallas in 1976 she opened "Ratzell's Barn" second hand store. Mom was a world traveler, visiting all of Europe, China, Japan, South Pacific, Egypt and the Holy Land multiple times. She met Leo Henry at church in 1988 and they married March of 1989. They were both very involved in the Church of Christ. She became a Property manager and spent a few months each year in Hawaii taking care of her Mom. She was diagnosed with Dementia about 9 years ago and it slowly got worse. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, her son Dennis in 2014 and in 2017 both her son-in-law Michael and her beloved Husband Leo. Left to always remember her life as a shining example to everyone she knew are her children Denise, Diane and Dwayne and her step children Brian (Ruth), Matt (Karen), Lynn (Bill), Darin (Karen), Lisa (Brad) and Eric (Nicky) 28 grand kids, 15 great-grand kids and 1 great great-granddaughter, her sisters Pat and Jeannette and a few much loved nieces and nephews. Mom was always a positive person, loved to laugh and celebrate any occasion with family. She has always been an excellent cook, party hostess, loved shopping for a bargain and gave the best advice. She was very proud to be a Christian. She put together a few family reunions in Disney World, San Diego and Hawaii. She so loved the coast. Mom was very well known for sending Birthday cards with $1 to all of the kids she ever knew! Everyone who knew her recognized her strength, wisdom, quick wit, humor, generosity of spirit, love of family and faith in God. She was always there for each of us through milestones and mishaps, triumphs and tragedies. She was grateful for all of the people that touched her life and she impacted so many lives in so many ways, Many thanks to the friendly, patient and compassionate people of Willamette Valley Hospice, especially Barb and Jerri. Her wish is to have her and Leo's ashes spread in the ocean off the beach at Waikiki. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
