David F. Quillin

David F. Quillin died on Friday, May 14, 2021 at his home in Stayton, OR after a long battle with dementia. He was 81 at the time of his death. Dave was born in Fouke, Arkansas on July 26, 1939 to his parents, Darrell and Irene Quillin. They moved to Finn Rock, Oregon in 1945. It was there that he discovered his life-long passion for fishing and baseball. One of his claims to fame was that he threw a no-hitter while playing on his high school team.
Dave graduated from McKenzie High School in 1957. Immediately after high school, he continued his baseball career by playing minor league ball for the Eugene Emeralds. On January 21, 1963, Dave married his wife of 58 years, Judith Hammett, in Springfield, OR. After working as a barber for several years, Dave joined the Oregon State Police in 1971. During his 23-year career with them, he served in Coquille, Gilchrist, Beaverton, Portland, Baker City, and Salem. After his retirement in 1994, Dave enjoyed fishing and traveling throughout the United States with his wife. He also had a fond passion for bluegrass music throughout his life.
David is survived by his wife, Judy, children Kevin and Darcy (Adam) Turnbo, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service will take place at Springfield Memorial Gardens on May 25th at 2:00 pm in Springfield, OR. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Willamette Valley Hospice for their outstanding care and assistance during the final weeks of Dave’s life.
