Buddy Jess Ellis

March 4, 1933 - November 15, 2015

Buddy J. Ellis was born on March 4, 1933 in Wellsford, KS.  He moved to Oregon with his family around 1936.  He graduated from Willamina High School in 1951, and spent the next 4 years in the U.S. Navy.  He was an Aviation Ordinance Mate 3rd Class upon discharge in May 1955.  He spent his time in the Navy loading planes with missiles, bombs, and other ordinance for delivery during the Korean War.

He married his first wife, Mickey in 1953 and had 2 sons, Buddy Jr. and Bobby.  In 1961 he married Glenna L. Pruitt Marrs, her second also, and remained so until his passing.  He acquired 3 step-children with Glenna and always treated them as his own.

Buddy was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He preferred trout and striped bass fishing, and hunting for mule deer.  He worked in various plywood mills, mostly Georgia Pacific, his entire adult life.

Buddy passed on at 4:14 pm, Sunday, November 15, 2015.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years Glenna; siblings Carolyn LittleJohn, Keith Ellis, and Richard Ellis; children Buddy Ellis Jr and Robert Ellis; step-children Julie Boock, Steve Marrs, and Scott Marrs; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be from 11 am to 5 pm on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, 605 Commercial St SE in Salem.

A special thanks to Legacy Hospice, Buddy Jr, Patty, Steve, Scott, Diana, Julie, and Stacey McCurry and her wife Stephanie, and Jessica Marrs and her boyfriend Jeremy Pettit, Crystal Rabun and Jennie Marrs for caring for Buddy in his last days.
