Betty Louise Hardy

Betty Louise Hardy passed peacefully in her home in Salem, OR, the morning of February 5, 2021, of natural causes at 93 years of age. Betty was born October 20, 1927, as Betty Louise Nelson in Corvallis, OR, to Lewis and Anna Nelson. She was the fourth of five daughters. As a child, she traveled with her sisters in a gymnastic group, The Disney Cut-Ups, in order to provide for her family. Betty was a cheerleader for Corvallis High School, dad let her try out but only if she could do back flips the length of the gym. In 1948, she married Earl Hardy of Corvallis, OR. Together they operated Roller Skating Rinks in Oregon: Phil-O-Rink in Philomath, Newport, Rollarena in Medord and Rollertime in Salem. After 20 years in the roller skating business Betty went to work at Oregon Fruit when it was located in West Salem. After between 15 and 20 years she retired from the cannery and has been a housewife taking care of Earl.
Betty is survived by her husband; Earl Hardy, husband for 72 years; daughter, Earlene (Mike) Gilliam; Brook Chappell, granddaughter; Michael Chappell, great grandson; Aryana Availa, great granddaughter; Aubree and Raleigh Chappell, great-great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her 4 sisters, Ruth Handy, Ruby Teyema, June Gorsline and Lou Ann Bennett.
